In the old days, hospice operational decisions were slowed as accountants were tasked with analyzing the potential impact of changes. No more. The Decision Dashboard equips hospice leaders with instantaneous “What-If” analysis capabilities and presents immediate results in a visually stunning format.

The reality is that patients and families do not care how much you spend. They want results: Zero pain if possible, affordable services, prompt response to needs, ability to determine level of service, and so forth. If you spend 12% of Net Patient Revenue on medications, does it make the patient happier?

You may not think a single percentage point variance is a big deal. But, each percentage point represents a lot of money. As we look at profitability in the hospice world, it often boils down to single percentage points. Usually when a hospice is doing well financially, the operational profit does not come from one area of excellence.

All hospices have a model. Hospices may think that they are not doing the MVI Model and that is okay. However, all hospices have a way of doing business which is essentially a model. These models usually evolve organically over time. The big difference is that what we are prescribing is the intentional creation of a way of doing hospice.

Has there ever been a time in your personal or professional career where you have gotten “stuck”? It seems you keep dealing with the same problems over and over. Or you can’t get seem to get agency results to move on financial, quality or service goals? In the famous words of Albert Einstein “Insanity is repeating the same action over and over but expecting a different result.”

Benchmarking Application - Version 9 is scheduled for re-lease in July. It will contain very powerful query options that will allow clients to glean insight into specific hospice practices at will and within moments. Last October, MVI linked specific hospice practices to financial results to create truly Quantified Best practices from a financial per-spective. This was perhaps the first time in hospice history that true quantification of practices and vendors has been done on any scale. With this new benchmarking release, many of these practices will be available on a permanent basis and reflect up-to-date information.

Most people in the Hospice Industry have heard of Andrew Reed but many don’t know about his diverse interests and talents or about his artistic mind. I have known Andrew for years as a friend but have never had occasion to work with him. Recently I became associated with Multi-View Partners and had the opportunity to pose questions to Andrew I had always wanted to ask.
