Virtual Tough Training – Compensation & The Model – February ’21 – VIDEO
People behave the way they are paid. Compensation is much DEEPER than money—it is a System of Incentives, a Teacher, and one of the most powerful ways to shape behavior in a human organization. In this Tough Training, Andrew connects the philosophical understanding of Compensation with the actual mechanics: Accountability or Empowerment Pay, Individual Pay, Net Patient Revenue, Standards, Productivity, Documentation, and the emotional work required to get past the Fear Barrier. In 28 years of MVI work, Andrew notes that they had not seen a traditionally paid organization reach the 90th percentile.
The goal is to create mature people who OWN their work rather than blame circumstances, while allowing the Compensation System to do much of the Accountability heavy lifting. Done well, it rewards Talent, exposes weak performance, strengthens Attraction and Retention, and creates a more Self-Regulating organization where Managers can spend less Energy policing people and more time Teaching them.
What the Training Covers
- The DEEP Philosophy of Compensation
Understanding Compensation beyond money—as VALUE, Feeling, Motivation, and part of the larger System of Incentives that shapes human behavior. - Accountability, Ownership & Empowerment Pay
Using Compensation to help people own their results, move beyond victimhood, and create a culture of mature Accountability rather than dependence on Manager confrontation. - Productivity, Documentation & Standards
Linking pay to clearly defined organizational Standards so the System reinforces Productivity, Documentation, and performance every pay period. - Individual Pay, NPR & the Mechanics of the System
Separating Base Pay from Performance Pay, using Individual Pay and percentages of Net Patient Revenue, and creating financial structures that flex with actual organizational performance. - Getting Past the Fear Barrier & Implementing the System
Addressing the fear that “everyone will quit,” using the right language during rollout, Teaching the WHY, and creating an Accountability or Empowerment system people can understand and eventually regard as simply “the way we roll here.”
