Turnover or loss of Talent is perhaps the #1 destroyer of value in an organization. Training costs are enormous and an organization with anything over 20% has little claim to quality. Therefore, an organization needs to 1) Attract and 2) Retain the most talented people it can. It does an organization little good to train people only to have them leave. It is no accident that some Hospices have such low turnover and have massively talented people that can implement innovations at a pace that leaves competitors in the dust. Not only is the turnover rate excellent, virtually all other measures such profitability (12% and higher) and quality are as high as they can practically go. Everything comes from the quality of an organization’s focus on people systems.
